Turnell recipient of the UWP Super Senior Award
PLATTEVILLE-Each semester the University of Wisconsin-Platteville announces senior students who have been selected for the Super Senior/Honorary Life Membership Award.
Abby Turnell from New Lisbon received this prestigious award. Turnell is a criminal justice major. She is a 1999 graduate of New Lisbon High School and the daughter of Jon and Deb Turnell of New Lisbon.
Turnell is described by her nominator as "a fine example of how transfer students can be an asset to the UWP campus." Turnell, while a student at UW-Milwaukee, initially came to UWP two years ago to play in a rugby match during homecoming. From this visit, Turnell loved the 'feel" of the community and the campus environment and decided she wanted to be a part of it and transferred. Her decision to transfer also pleased her parents and grandfather, who are alumni of UWP.
While at UWP, Turnell was a swim instructor, a university tutor, and a member of the women's basketball and rugby teams. Through the transition, Turnell maintained a 4.0 GPA. She was also involved with student support services, Porter Hall activities and a member of the Criminal Justice Association while at UWP. Turnell also completed undercover work for the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.
Turnell will go on to attend UW-Milwaukee to attend graduate school and is pursuing a master's degree in public administration.
