Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue to perform at Center for the Arts on Nov. 7
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Center for the Arts will present “Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue,” on Nov. 7 in the Brodbeck Concert Hall at 7 p.m.
Troy Andrews, also known as Trombone Shorty, hails from the Tremé neighborhood in New Orleans, Louisiana’s 6th Ward, getting his nickname at the age of four when his older brother James observed him marching in a street parade, wielding a trombone twice as long as he was high.
Not long afterward, Andrews formed his own band with some other musically inclined youth from Tremé who were focused on learning and carrying on the New Orleans’ tradition.
Since the release of their Grammy-nominated 2010 debut album, “Backatown,” Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue has grown creatively while winning many new fans and performing nonstop on five continents.
Their album “For True,” (2011), which refines the signature sound Andrews has dubbed “Supafunkrock,” debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart and reached #72 on The Hot 100 chart. His current album, “Say This to Say That,” peaked at #2 on the Jazz Albums chart and is currently #4.
“Trombone Shorty is one of the best entertainers out there, period,” said Zac Brown in Billboard (July 2012).
