Symphony Orchestra to present Halloween Pops concert
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Symphony Orchestra will present the Halloween Pops concert on Friday, Oct. 31, in the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $7 and student admission is $5.
Dr. Thomas Dickey, director of orchestral activities at UW-Platteville, will conduct the orchestra. Guest soloists will include Dr. Susan Savage Day, assistant professor of music, vocal area coordinator, director of Opera Workshop, and musical director for Musical Theatre at UW-Platteville; and Rebekah Demaree, senior lecturer of applied voice, voice class, and diction at UW-Platteville.
“This is a great opportunity for families to hear some of their favorite pieces from movies such as ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Fantasia,’” said Dickey. “The orchestra and I will be dressed up in costumes. It's going to be a fun evening for everyone.”
“I enjoy the opportunity to share with my students and the audience some of my favorite pieces of classical music that have gained their popularity in part by being used in movies,” Dickey said. “It's what I consider ‘classical music you didn't know that you already know.’”
The UW-Platteville Symphony Orchestra is open to students, faculty, staff and community members, ranging from advanced beginners to skilled amateurs, ages 12 and older. It is open to anyone who can read music and enjoys playing classical symphonic repertoire.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or through the University Box Office by calling 608-342-1298.
