Swing, rock and funk on the program for Dec. 3 jazz concert
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Jazz Ensemble concert on Monday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall will feature two groups: Jazz 1, directed by Allen Cordingley, and the Pioneer Jazz Orchestra, directed by Keith Lienert. The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
Cordingley and Lienert, who are both music instructors at UW-Platteville and will be formally directing their respective jazz ensembles for the first time, said the evening includes a program of varied composers and styles, with swing, rock and funk selections, as well as a few ballads.
“Both ensembles are playing well and will present a high energy night of jazz music,” said Cordingley. He added that for those who want to know why big bands used to be so popular, this concert will be a good place to find out the reason.
