Midwest Photography Invitational at UWP's Nohr Gallery
This exhibit features the work of major photographic artists from around the country. Organized by the Lawton Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the Midwest Photography Invitational presents 62 works by 26 photographers and continues its historic mission to be a touchtone for new developments in contemporary photography.
Photography is the most contemporary of the arts. In its many forms - print, cinema, video and digital imaging among them - photography is the dominant visual force of our time. Throughout its history, the Midwest Photography Invitational has presented the work of hundreds of photographers, all of whom, in different ways, have worked to expand the boundaries of the medium. As evidenced in the current exhibition, contemporary photographers' incorporation of computer and digital technology has profoundly impacted the manner in which they approach and represent their chosen subject matter.
An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, from 5-7:30 p.m. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be provided.
The Harry and Laura Nohr Gallery is located in the lower level of the Ullsvik Center, at the intersection of Main and Hickory streets in Platteville. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 12-3 p.m. and all events are free of charge. For more information, please call the gallery at (608) 342-1398.
