Skrede receives University of Wisconsin-Platteville Professional Achievement Award

PLATTEVILLE - Laurel Skrede recently received the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Professional Achievement Award.

Skrede graduated from Viroqua High School in 1973. Following graduation, she served a four-year enlistment in the Navy and was stationed at the Naval Station Signal Tower in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Skrede enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1978. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice in August 1982, as well as graduating from the Wisconsin State Patrol Basic Police Academy. In 1985, Skrede completed her undergrad requirements for political science.

Following college graduation, Skrede worked part time as a student for the university police and as a dispatcher for the Platteville Police Deparment before being hired as a full-time police officer for UWP in June of 1982. In December 1989, she was promoted to campus police supervisor and then to director and chief in January 1997. Skrede is currently the director and chief of the campus police and is anticipating retirement at the end of December.

Says Skrede on her receipt of the award, "I am truly honored to have been selected to receive the Professional Achievement Award."
