PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Foundation will be selling raffle tickets for Student Giving Days during the annual Thank-A-Thon event on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7-8 and again on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5-6 at the official Student Giving Days event.
Student Giving Days is a scholarship program funded by students, for students. “All the money raised in the raffle each semester goes toward the scholarship prizes given away through the raffle,” said student pioneer development officer Ryan Thill.
During Student Giving Days, the Foundation will raffle off three scholarships: one for $1,000, one for $500 and one for $250. “These scholarships go directly toward the winner’s tuition for their next semester,” said Thill.
Student Giving Days is also about letting students know how much UW-Platteville alumni contribute to the university. Alumni have helped provide many of the new features that continue to make UW-Platteville a high-quality place to receive an education. Along with selling tickets at the Thank-A-Thon event, there will also be thank-you cards that students can fill out to give back to alumni donors.
“Because current students will be our alumni base in the future, we want to make it clear how much of an impact those who have come before them have made on their college experience so that one day they will consider returning the favor,” said Thill.
The cost for the raffle tickets is one ticket for $5, three tickets for $10 and seven tickets for $20. Additional prizes are available, as well, with the $10 and $20 options, including a T-shirt and a chance to win four Dubuque Fighting Saints tickets with the $20 purchase. Students can purchase raffle tickets at the Foundation table in the Markee Pioneer Student Center or Bridgeway Commons from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the Thank-A-Thon event on Nov. 7-8 or at the official Student Giving Days event on Dec. 5-6 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Faculty and staff can also purchase tickets and direct the funds towards their favorite student or student worker.
Raffle winners will be selected on Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at the MPSC.
