Fireworks, M lighting to celebrate commencement

M lighting, fireworks

To celebrate a special UW-Platteville commencement, the lighting of the M and fireworks are planned for this Saturday around 9:15 p.m.

The university will celebrate the class of 2022 and graduates of spring 2020, summer 2020, fall 2020 and spring 2021 at the 208th commencement on Saturday. The College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture ceremony, which will include graduate programs and associate degree candidates, will take place at 10 a.m. The College of Liberal Arts and Education and College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science ceremony will take place at 2 p.m.

The two ceremonies will take place in the Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium to accommodate space for this spring's graduates as well as those whose ceremonies were postponed due to COVID.

The UW-Platteville Alumni Association and UW-Platteville Foundation are sponsoring the fireworks and lighting of the M to honor all the graduates, those who can make it and those who are unable to attend. The university is NOT hosting a gathering at the M. This is a one-time May graduation with fireworks. No band or formal program will be held at the site.

The Platteville High School prom is being held at the Barn and will be able to enjoy these fireworks along with the entire Platteville Community.

Volunteers are needed at commencement from 9 a.m - Noon and 1 p.m - 3:30 p.m.  Volunteers can assist by passing out programs, greeting families and escorting guests into Pioneer Stadium. To volunteer, or if you seek more information, email alumni manager Shelby Lang at langs@uwplatt.edu.
