PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The final production in the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s 12th season of the Heartland Festival series this year will be “Fiddler on the Roof.” The show opens on Saturday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. and will run through Sunday, July 21. All performances will be held in the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall at the UW-Platteville Center for the Arts.
“Fiddler on the Roof” takes place in the little village of Anatevka. Tevye, a poor milkman, is trying to keep his family’s traditions in place. Yet, times are changing. and when Tevye’s daughters want to make their own matches, he must choose between his own daughters’ happiness and those beloved traditions that keep the outside world at bay. It is Tevye’s love for his family, pride and faith that help him face the dangerous forces in Anatevka, which threaten to destroy the very life he and his fellow villagers are trying to preserve.
“It is a beautiful story about love, family and tradition,” said Ann Dillon Farrelly, director. “Tevye’s traditions and family mean everything to him, but the world is changing and Tevye must decide if he is able to change with it.”
The production is directed by Farrelly with choreography by Connie Saloutos Furlan, music direction by Lizzie Hansen, scenic design by Jeffrey Strange, costume design by Sarah Woodworth, and lighting design by Lucas Pawelski. “We have assembled a wonderful production team and cast who have beautifully brought the village of Anatevka to life,” said Farrelly. “This classic of American musical theatre is sure to touch your heart, whether you’ve seen it countless times or you are seeing it for the very first time.”
Tickets for “Fiddler on the Roof” are $20 for adults, $16 for current UW-Platteville students and $9 for those under 18.
“Frankly Scarlett, You’re Dead!” is running through Saturday, July 20. “Nunsense” is running through Sunday, June 30.
