Campus group starts PROgram speaking series
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The Public Relations Organization at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville has formed a new speaking series on campus, entitled PROgrams. The forums will bring in professionals to speak on a variety of topics aimed at aiding students as they seek employment.
The first event will be Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in the University South Room in the Markee Pioneer Student Center. Ellen Hughes, UW-Platteville admissions counselor, will advise students on how to ace a job interview. Hughes has previous upper management retail experience.
The seminars, which will last an hour, are free and open to everyone.
“We want to help students while they’re in school to get a job,” said Jessica Mueller, a senior communications technologies major from Baraboo, Wis., and president of PRO.
The idea came from PRO member, Megan Schmidt, a senior media studies major from Mt. Morris, Ill. “We brainstormed and wanted to come up with a way to give back to students on campus,” she said.
PRO is hoping to schedule speakers on a monthly basis, beginning in the spring semester. Among the topics planned for the spring are how to utilize social media as a professional and how to secure an internship.
