Benson recipient of the UWP Super Senior Award
PLATTEVILLE-Each semester the University of Wisconsin-Platteville announces senior students who have been selected for the Super Senior/Honorary Life Membership Award.
Jeff Benson from Cobb received this prestigious award. Benson graduated with a degree in business and comprehensive business and economics. After graduation he plans to attend graduate school at UWP for counselor education.
Benson was described by his nominator, Valerie Wetzel of the Pioneer Involvement Center, as "committed to the pride of UWP," and as someone who is upbeat, energetic and constantly showing his dedication and commitment to the campus. Throughout the spring 2003 semester, Jeff could be heard telling students to "get involved" because participation is the key to success.
Benson has been very involved in the campus community at UWP. He served on the Segregated University Fee Allocation Commission (SUFAC), including a term as president and vice-president, and he was a student senator. His experience with SUFAC provided him the opportunity to review the SUFAC policies from a historical and legal perspective, a position he held in the student affairs office. Benson also served in leadership roles in his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, as well as participated in a variety of musical events on campus. In addition, Benson served as the chairperson for UWP President's Council, a group that met weekly with the presidents and vice presidents of each of the campus governance groups.
Benson is not only involved with events on the UWP campus, he has also helped with many events in the Platteville community. He was an assistant youth football coach, "Meals on Wheels" volunteer and a "Mile of Money" participant. Benson was also a chamber of commerce volunteer and a parade co-planner.
The Super Senior Award is not the first distinguished honor that Benson has received. He was the district's outstanding sophomore and senior recipient for his fraternity. He was the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award recipient for economics and the UWP Foundation Excellence in Leadership Award recipient.
