Assault awareness month
PLATTEVILLE- Balloons, music and poetry will highlight the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Family Advocates Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities during the month of April.
An Italian theme silent auction will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the Timbers Restaurant, 670 Ellen St., Platteville. A table will be reserved for art created by sexual assault survivors.
A brown bag lunch on the topic of date rape drugs is set for noon on Tuesday, April 8, in the University Room of the Pioneer Student Center.
Sandy Spofford of UWP Counseling Services, Vickie Dreessens of Health Services and Campus Police Director Laurel Skrede will lead the discussion.
An open microphone for singing, playing an instrument, reading poetry and personal stories will be held 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, in the McGregor Hall basement.
A balloon release on Sunday, April 27, sponsored by Family Advocates, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Community Building on Pitt St. The release, along with music and food stands, will highlight the theme, "Celebrate Survival: Caring Communities Creating Change."
Balloons will be available at all events prior to the release for people to sign survivors' names on them.
