Alumni Services creates new ambassador program
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Alumni Services is creating a new alumni ambassador program. This program is designed to broaden professional networks, encourage involvement and spark communication between alumni.
Anne Killian is one alumna who has participated in the ambassador program through UW-Platteville. The UW-Platteville Foundation received an e-mail from a recent graduate who had moved to Milwaukee, Wis, and, in turn, contacted Killian about starting a group. This group of alumni is all about the same age and some knew each other from their time on campus.
When this group met, they all shared their knowledge and experience of living in Milwaukee. Many of the topics discussed were about where to get the best pizza, where to live and what restaurants to eat at as well as things to do in Milwaukee, such as Jazz in the Park.
Killian shared her connections with the Young Professionals Organization in Milwaukee to get others involved. “Getting recommendations from others is so much better than using things like Yelp or travel guides because others have lived and experienced these things,” she said.
“More alumni could benefit from a program like this and this is a great way for people to connect,” said Killian. The Alumni Association is working to attract alumni ambassadors in cities such as Dubuque, Iowa; Twin Cities, Minn., Chicago, Ill., Rockford, Ill., Milwaukee, Green Bay Wis. and Oshkosh, Wis. Eventually, groups will be formed in more cities and states where alumni live. This program provides a small, intimate setting for alumni to make connections in a new city.
The mission of the Alumni Association is to keep UW-Platteville alumni connected to the university as well as other alumni. Alumni choose to be involved in a variety of ways, whether it's through alumni events, such as Homecoming, social media, print communication or through volunteer opportunities like the ambassador program. If alumni and friends of the university are interested in becoming an ambassador for their city, please contact the Alumni Services office at 1.800.897.2586.
