Exponent staff at UWP receives Wisconsin Newspaper Association awards
PLATTEVILLE - The 2009 Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation's Better Newspaper and Advertising Contest awarded four University of Wisconsin-Platteville students from the Exponent staff for their work in the 2008-2009 academic school year.
Amy Bell Kwallek, current editor in chief, and Dan Klein, layout editor, received first place in graphics for their two-page study abroad special.
"The idea of the piece was to show the multiple study abroad opportunities available to UWP students," said Dan Klein. "The two-page piece included photos from each location, quotes from past UWP study abroad students, and costs and application deadlines for each program."
According to Kwallek, "The contest is very competitive and pits us against the top college newspapers in Wisconsin including the Badger Herald and the Daily Cardinal out of UW-Madison, so to win first place against larger dailies is a feat in and of itself. We work hard to create a quality product week after week, so it's nice to see that it pays off."
Andrew Brunner, news editor, won an honorable mention for general reporting, and sports editor Jessica Vretenar received an honorable mention for graphics.
