UW-Platteville A.S.I.A. Club to present award-winning Jigu! Thunder Drums of China
PLATTEVILLE- Jigu! Thunder Drums of China will rumble into Platteville for the 13th annual University of Wisconsin-Platteville Asian American Night on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The group will perform in the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall, located in the Center for the Arts on the UWP campus from 7 to 9 p.m.
The drummers first performed in Europe and Asia in 1988, and they made their first appearance in America in 2007 with a sold out North American tour. The performance unites special effects with high-tech lighting to make this event both entertaining and enlightening according to Pusaporn Tabrizi, advisor for the UWP A.S.I.A. club.
According to their biography their sold out shows were joyous celebrations of Chinese music, culture, drumming and percussive arts, and fun. The drummers were awarded for their unique entertaining style by being the 2000, 2001 and 2004 National Star Awards in China gold medalists. In 1992, they were the winners of the Chinese folk dancing competition for percussion and drums performers.
"I would like to invite and encourage the campus community and the Platteville community to attend the program. It is going to be an ultra-sensory entertainment experience," said Tabrizi.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults, and $3 for students with a valid ID, seniors and children. Tickets are available through the University Box Office at (608) 342-1298 or at http://www.uwplatt.edu/arts/cfa/information/office.html.
