International faculty at UWP to present on native countries

PLATTEVILLE- Over the 2009-2010 school year, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville will present a series of lectures on campus to entertain and educate the community about the different countries of origin of a number of UWP faculty and staff members.

UWP has approximately 11 percent of faculty and staff born outside the United States. According to Majid Tabrizi, lecturer of plastics technology in the UWP Industrial Studies Department, this is important because this can be influential to inform and educate faculty, students and community members about a large number of countries and cultures beyond the borders of the United States.

The Equality and Diversity Committee of BILSA, International Student Services office, Center for Plastics Processing Technology, International Student Club and Asian Students in Action (ASIA) Club are sponsoring a series of lectures to offer this opportunity to the UWP campus.

The lectures will be offered once a month and will last approximately one to one and a half hours. They will take place in the University South Room at the Pioneer Student Center and are open to the public.

The presenter will be a foreign-born member of UWP's faculty or staff and they will select the presentation's format. The presentation may be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, cultural presentation, art or an exhibition.

The first presenter will be Tabrizi. His presentation titled "Iran from a native view" will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the PSC.

The sponsoring organizations are inviting the foreign-born faculty, staff and campus community to participate and support these events.

For more information about the lectures, please contact Tabrizi at 342-1115 or Marcia Sola at 342-1852.
