UWP Alumni Association invites all on historical bike ride to Wisconsin's first capitol

PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Alumni Association will be hosting a bike ride event on Saturday, June 20 for all alumni, guests and anyone interested in attending. Bike riders will meet at the parking lot next to the Pioneer Tower on the UWP campus at 10 a.m., head to the First Capitol Park in Belmont, take a break for lunch and return to campus. The ride will be approximately 20 miles round trip.

The First Capitol of Wisconsin State Park was restored to recall the days when the state legislature met there for 46 days in 1836. The Council House, where frontier lawmakers discussed the passage of 42 bills, has been refurbished in the style of the period. A museum in the Supreme Court Building depicts life in the 1830s on the Wisconsin frontier. All are located on County Hwy. G in Belmont.

"This event is a great way to experience Wisconsin history, enjoy the scenery of Southwest Wisconsin and spend time with UWP alumni and friends," said Anne Killian, events coordinator for UWP Alumni Services.
