UW-Extension and UWP host Community Organizing for Sustainability webinar
PLATTEVILLE - A Community Organizing for Sustainability webinar will be held in the Computer Conference Room of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Student Center on Tuesday, June 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This free event is sponsored by UWP and UW-Extension and is open to UWP faculty, staff, students and the Platteville community.
"This session will offer practical suggestions for communities wishing to undertake sustainability initiatives and also offer suggestions for increasing the chance for success for those communities already engaged in sustainability activities," Peggy Compton, UW-Extension basin educator, said.
She is working with Mike Compton, director of the UWP School of Agriculture, and Tim Zauche, UWP associate professor of inorganic chemistry.
The role of local governments, businesses and organizations in creating sustainable communities will be discussed as well as why some communities seem to move forward and some do not and how location can make a difference.
Examples will also be presented on study circles, early adopter projects, comprehensive planning and local sustainability alliances.
This webinar is the eighth in the Focus on Sustainability series. At each session, participants interact with presenters and other participants throughout Wisconsin. Pre-registration for each webinar is requested, but not required. For more information, contact Peggy Compton at (608) 342-1633 or peggy.compton@ces.uwex.edu.
