UWP reorganizes departments
PLATTEVILLE- In order to progress in light of budget restraints, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville has made itself more efficient by reorganizing. New staff are being hired and other staff have additional duties.
Carol Sue Butts, vice chancellor and provost, oversees the Distance Learning Center and Institutional Research in addition to her regular duties.
The Distance Learning Center enables students to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates online. Institutional Research supports UWP policies with data analysis and provides data for new initiatives.
"I'm very familiar with Carol Sue because I also sit on the chancellor's cabinet. I couldn't ask for a better boss," said Mark Maillou, director of Institutional Research.
David VanBuren, associate vice chancellor, is also the interim director of the Karrmann Library. He maintains the library's budget and standards of quality and service. He is currently in search of a new library director. The new director will take over VanBuren's library duties and have additional administration duties.
Rob Cramer, assistant chancellor of Administrative Services, also oversees the Office of Information Technology, Media Technology Services and Desire to Learn software. He is currently learning about each of these departments and developing goals for what needs to be accomplished. He also hired Mike Sherer as the interim director of the Office of Information Technology.
Sherer manages networking, support and development of OIT. He also oversees the Learning Technology Center, which includes the Desire to Learn software and educates faculty and staff about using technology in the classroom. Additionally, Sherer directs the advancement of OIT. One of the office's goals is to update PeopleSoft for launch at the end of July.
"It's been a smooth transition. Everyone is outstanding to work with. It's a lot of fun," said Sherer.
Lee Jadaan has been selected for the position of director of University of Wisconsin-Platteville Information and Communications. She oversees the UWP Offices of Public Relations, Publications, Mail and Duplicating and Web Development, all of which are part of University Information and Communications under University Advancement.
"We made a movement to concentrate our efforts to grow the communications initiative on campus and develop a new multimedia avenue," said Jadaan.
This new initiative includes five areas, content management, imaging media, brand, image enforcement and revenue generating resources. The office is also looking into the feasibility of a copier contract for campus.
"We are actually putting this area back to the way it was a few years ago. The growth in scope of work throughout the area, (public relations, publications, photography, imaging media, web development and mail and duplicating services) made it necessary to have a main contact point to coordinate, organize and lead the area to an exciting future," said Dennis Cooley, assistant chancellor for University Advancement.
"We want this to be a one stop shop for university personnel and students for their marketing and communication needs," said Jadaan.
