UWP brings jazz fusion to the Nohr Gallery

PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's flute choir will be joining the group, Joe Caploe and Neck N Neck, for an evening performance on Wednesday, March 25 in the Harry and Laura Nohr Gallery at 7:30 p.m. The Nohr Gallery is located in the lower level of Ullsvik Hall on the UWP campus. There will be a performance on Friday, March 27 in the Nohr Gallery with the percussion ensemble joining Joe Caploe and Neck N Neck beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The members of the group met in 1983 while attending the California Institute of the Arts. Each member was studying various music styles and theory. Since 1983, Neck N Neck has developed their own unique brand of cross-cultural jazz, infusing Anlo Ewe, Yoruba, Indian and Gamelan music together.

Members of the group include UWP director of percussion and jazz studies, Caploe, on electric vibraphone and percussion; Leonice Shinneman on the African drum set and tabla; Mark Sims on bass; Andy Strasmich on flute and Rob Block on guitar and piano. Some of the members of Neck N Neck have worked with such musical greats as Frank Zappa, Stevie Wonder and Ben Harper.

Neck N Neck has performed at the San Jose Jazz Festival, America Festival, Iowa City Jazz Festival, Tapestry and Talent, and Mountain View Center for the Arts outside of San Francisco.

After the performances at UWP, the group will head into the studio to begin recording tracks for their upcoming CD release.

For any questions about the upcoming performances, contact Caploe at caploe@uwplatt.edu or at (608) 342-1018.
