UWP alumnus is National Pork Producers Council new vice president

PLATTEVILLE- Doug Wolf, a University of Wisconsin-Platteville alumnus, was recently elected to a one-year term as vice president of the National Pork Producers Council.

The NPPC represents the entire United States pork industry. Wolf has served on the NPPC's board of directors for three years. As vice president, he will oversee and work with staff to ensure that what NPPC does is in the best interest of pork industry members. NPPC lobbies congress, oversees regulatory and trade issues and initiates international pork markets. "Doug has been a strong leader in the U.S. pork industry and brings that leadership and knowledge of pork industry issues to his new position as vice president of NPPC," said National Pork Producers Council CEO Neil Dierks. "He will be a valuable asset to U.S. pork producers."

Wolf is a partner in Wolf L and G Farms LLC, a 1,200 sow farrow to finish operation in Lancaster, that markets 24,000 hogs annually. They also own a cow-calf herd, feedlot and 1,200 crop acres where they grow corn, soybeans and alfalfa hay. He purchased the farm from his father, and his wife, Kris and son, Shannon, a UWP alumnus as well, are also partners. Wolf graduated from UWP in 1984 with a degree in agriculture economics. He also holds a master's degree from UW-Madison in meat and animal science. He decided to go to school because of a difficult time in the nation's economy that affected farmer's particularly hard. He said he was able to directly apply the knowledge he gained at UWP to his farm. "It gave me perspective as to how and why the downturn happened and what would make it better. Even now, it's helping me make decisions on our farm," said Wolf.
