Ms. Manners returns to UWP with lesson in etiquette and professionalism

PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Career Center will again host Dinner with Ms. Manners, a dinner that will provide students with information on dining etiquette and mealtime interviews. This event will take place on Wednesday, March 11 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Nohr Art Gallery in Ullsvik Hall on the UWP campus.

Registration and pre-payment for this event are due by Monday, March 2 at 4:15 p.m. Students may register and pay at the Career Center in Room 200 Ullsvik Hall. Pre-payment is $10.75, the cost of the meal. Students may pay with cash, check or meal plans.

The evening topics will include a mix-and-mingle session sponsored by representatives from Cunningham and Butler designed to instruct students and build their confidence in networking and meet and greet situations. Professional wardrobe, e-mail etiquette and interview tips are also on the menu.

Diana Trendt, interim director and career consultant for the Career Center, invites all students to attend.

"The event is an excellent opportunity for students to improve upon meal etiquette skills. They will often find themselves in formal dining situations and because of this program, they will learn the skills they need to make that important first impression," said Trendt.

Deb Putnam, assistant director of Dining Services, will again serve as the resident etiquette expert. UWP faculty and administrators will also join students at dinner to test their etiquette skills and also to be available for specific questions. Students may be grouped with a specific UWP representative that is directly related to their declared major.

The menu for the evening will be a mixed green salad with a chicken and rice soup followed by the main course of grilled chicken breast in a hunter sauce with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli and honey-glazed carrots. A crusty baguette will be served with the meal, and dessert will be an apple dumpling drizzled in caramel sauce. Coffee, iced tea and water will be served. Vegetarian meals are available upon request at registration.

Those wanting to register or learn more information about the event may contact the Career Center at (608) 342-1183.
