Miss Virginia to speak about body image at UWP
PLATTEVILLE- Nancy Redd, 2004 Miss Virginia and New York Times best selling author, will present at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31. All presentations are free and open to the public.
The main presentation will be on March 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Velzy Commons in Ullsvik Hall. Redd will discuss the different images women carry about their bodies, based off her book, "Body Drama." The book is a practical, medically accurate guide to how women's bodies should look, feel, behave and change. It uses humor and pictures of real women to appeal to young women.
Two book signings will take place March 31 from 9 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University Bookstore. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
Redd will also present to different UWP classes throughout the two days in the Pioneer Student Center. These are also open to the public. These presentations will take place on March 30 from 4 to 4:52 p.m. and on March 31 from 10 to 11 a.m., and 2 to 4 p.m.
In addition to her book, Redd is also a self-esteem advisor to Fitness magazine, an America Online wellness coach and editor for the Dove campaign's MSN.com website. She made the top 10 in the 2004 Miss America competition and won the swimsuit contest. She was named one of the top 10 college age women most likely to succeed by Glamour magazine and has appeared on "Good Morning America," "The Early Show," the "Today Show" and "E! True Hollywood Stories."
