Weber to speak about electric power and energy at UW
PLATTEVILLE- A presentation, Electric Power and Energy: Creation and Transportation, will be given by Jamie Weber of PowerWorld Corp. at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation following from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Velzy Commons in Ullsvik Hall on the UWP campus on Thursday, Feb. 26.
Weber is a 1995 UWP electrical engineering alumnus. He will discuss the difference between power and energy and describe how electricity is created. Following, Weber will present the sources of electricity including hydro, coal, natural gas, nuclear, biomass, wind, solar and hydrogen, and the benefits and disadvantages of each. He will then show the present mix of electricity use in the United States and Wisconsin. Weber will conclude his presentation with a discussion of the attributes of the system used to transport electricity to the consumer.
