UWP mail center announces updated rates and procedures

PLATTEVILLE- In order to provide fast and efficient service, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Mail and Duplicating Center is updating its system in accordance with the United States Postal Service.

The first update now in place is that all standard mailing lists must go through the National Change of Address Service. Paperwork must be provided if USPS asks.

Also in place are rate increases. The new rates are $4.95 for priority mail, $17.95 for express mail, $10.95 flat rate for international to Canada and Mexico, and $12.95 flat rate international to all other countries. First class stamps will also increase from $.42 cents to $.44 on May 11.

A new tabbing standard will also begin in May. The number of pages will determine how big the tab is and mailings can have up to three tabs. Placing single, loose sheets in anything tabbed will not be allowed.

The Mail and Duplicating Center also has a new letter and flat inserter. This enables them to fold and insert up to four sheets together in one envelope. Additionally, the center offers bulk mailings, which, according to Jane Ware, mail services coordinator, can save clients money. Ware invites people to contact her to see how much they can possibly save with bulk mailings compared to sending them first class. However, bulk mailings need to be scheduled with the Mail and Duplicating Center in advance.

The Mail Center sends intercampus and USPS mail, sells stamps, shreds documents and addresses first class mailings. Full color and black and white brochures, posters, programs and small publications may be printed at the Duplicating Center. They are located in 017 Brigham Hall and open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mail and Duplicating staff includes Jane Ware, Cherie Bagstad, Diana Brunton, Tweet Leibfried, April McNett, Paul Pluemer and Bob Ward.

An informational meeting is being planned for June with the Mail and Duplicating Center and Offices of Public Relations and Publications. Ware said that all current and potential clients should plan to attend.

There will also be a survey being distributed about first class mailings. Ware requests that clients take the time to fill it out and return it to the Mail and Duplicating Center.

Anyone wanting more information about the UWP mail changes or to see how much they can save through bulk mailing, may contact Ware at (608) 342-1848 or ware@uwplatt.edu.
