UWP hosts Safe Spring Break Party Challenge
PLATTEVILLE - The fifth annual Safe Spring Break Party Challenge will take place on Wednesday, March 4, through Thursday, March 5, on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus. The event focuses on celebrating safely without using alcohol or drugs. Residence halls will host their parties on March 4, while other groups and organizations will host theirs on March 5. Parties begin after 6 p.m. and will be held at a variety of locations that will depend on which groups register.
Last year, over 300 students attended this event. "The Safe Spring Break Challenge is an excellent experience for all of the students; those that host the parties and those that attend the parties," Kara Delaney, education and prevention coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, said. "Very rarely do students get the opportunity to educate each other on being safe and responsible. This gives them a way to do that and have fun."
Delaney added, "I would recommend any student organization to get involved or attend a party, it is guaranteed to be a fun night."
Hundreds of dollars in prize money are available to the groups who have the best educational component, theme, advertising, food/mocktails, music and more. Each participating organization must have a party host, a person to check for sobriety, a safety person and an educational component. The Platteville community helps to fund the prize money and can participate in judging the parties.
Registration packets can be picked up in 220 Royce Hall and must be turned in no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20. For more information, contact Kara Delaney at delaneyk@uwplatt.edu.
