Continuing students invited to apply for UWP scholarships

PLATTEVILLE- Five hundred four scholarships totaling $366,000 were awarded to 300 continuing students through the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Foundation this year. These scholarships help students pay for tuition and fees. Students are now able to apply for scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year.

"College students are dealing with the increasing cost of education and financial aid is not able to cover all these costs. We encourage every student to take the time to review the scholarships available and apply for all they are eligible for," said Sarah Blevins, UWP scholarship coordinator.

Many of the scholarships are based on G.P.A., extra-curricular activities and the achievements students have made during their college career. Students may receive more than one scholarship if they apply for multiple ones. They have even more scholarship opportunities for the 2009-2010 school year because there are 12 new scholarships, Blevins said.

Scholarships are managed by the UWP Foundation and funded through donations. Those interested are also free to establish their own scholarship in their own name or that of a loved one. Anyone wanting to make a scholarship donation or establish a scholarship may contact the UWP Foundation at (608) 342-1196 or foundation@uwplatt.edu. Donations can also be made online at www.uwplatt.edu/foundation.

Any UWP continuing student may apply for continuing student scholarships through PeopleSoft. The application deadline is Feb. 13, 2009. A full list of continuing scholarships is available at www.uwplatt.edu/finaid/scholarships.html.

Anyone wanting more information about UWP scholarships may contact Blevins at (608) 342-1836 or blevinss@uwplatt.edu.
