UWP's Pioneer Farm sets ribbon-cutting for Calf-Tel donation

PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will formally thank Calf-Tel for its donation of calf pen systems for the Pioneer Farm at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the farm on Monday, Dec. 8.
The ribbon-cutting will take place at 9:45 a.m. and will be followed by an open house that will run until noon. Refreshments will be served.
Calf-Tel, located in Germantown, donated 20 two-by-six-foot calf pen systems to UWP's Pioneer Farm. They were installed in the old Dairy Center in early November and already are being used to house the farm's calves until they're about 2 months old.
Calf-Tel's national sales manager, Lewis Anderson Jr., will attend the ribbon-cutting and will be available to meet with farmers and others attending the event to discuss the company's product line.
The Calf-Tel pen systems allow for easy management and cleaning. When a calf is moved out, the bedding can be removed and the plastic pen can be cleaned with a spray washer, said Cory Weigel, Pioneer Farm's dairy herd manager.
Calf-Tel, a division of Hampel Corp., is located in a suburb northwest of Milwaukee. In addition to calf pen systems and hutches, Hampel also manufactures portable restrooms, reusable packaging and other products that utilize custom thermoforming.
The 430-acre Pioneer Farm is located about five miles southeast of campus at 29200 College Farm Road.
