Energy Efficiency session kicks off Focus on Sustainability webinar series
PLATTEVILLE- With record-high energy costs, increasing energy efficiency is key to lowering energy bills. Energy Efficiency, the first in a series of eight webinar sessions that take place from now until June, will teach the public how to make the most out of their energy dollar.
This free event, will take place Nov. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the University Room North in the Pioneer Student Center on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus. It is sponsored by UWP and UW-Extension.
"The Focus on Sustainability series is particularly timely as the university and the broader Platteville community have several initiatives in these areas. On campus, a renewable energy minor is available and in the Platteville community one of the big ideas to come from the My Community, My Vision process was working on making Platteville an eco-municipality. So I hope people on and off campus will take this opportunity to learn more about some of the facets of sustainability so we can work together towards the university and community goals," said Peggy Compton, basin educator of UW-Extension. She is working with Mike Compton, director of the UWP School of Agriculture, and Tim Zauche, UWP associate professor of inorganic chemistry.
During Energy Efficiency, participants will learn how to measure their current energy use and how to create an energy plan with technologies, practices, programs and policies that maximize energy efficiency and cost savings from Ingrid Kelly. Kelly is a project manager for the Energy Center of Wisconsin's Focus on Energy Renewal Program and author of "Energy in America: A Tour of Our Fossil Fuel Culture and Beyond."
At each session, participants will interact with presenters and other participants throughout Wisconsin. Subsequent sessions will also take place in the PSC from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. They include Renewable Energy, Sustainable Business Practices, Food Localization, Sustainability Indicators and Measurement, and Community Organizing for Sustainability.
Pre-registration for each webinar is requested but not required. Anyone wanting more information may contact Compton at (608) 342-1633 or peggy.compton@ces.uwex.edu.
