Deadline nears for UW-Platteville community scholarships
PLATTEVILLE - Incoming University of Wisconsin-Platteville freshmen who want to apply for a community scholarship are encouraged to apply by Jan. 1, 2009.
UW-Platteville's Community Scholarship Program will award 367 scholarships to new freshmen for the 2009-10 school year who apply for the awards aimed specifically at graduates of their high school.
The deadline for full consideration is Jan. 1, 2009, although applications will be accepted as late as March 1, 2009.
The scholarships are tied to many high schools across Wisconsin as well as some schools in Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa. As many as four one-time scholarships of $100 to $500 are available for students from each school district.
"It's a great opportunity for students who may be needing assistance," said Gina Udelhofen, director of annual giving for the UW-Platteville Foundation.
A list of school districts in which scholarships are available and other details may be viewed at www.uwplatt.edu/foundation/csp.
Much of the funding for the scholarship program comes from donors who contribute to either the high school they attended or the high school in the community where they now live or work. The number of CSP scholarships awarded annually has grown from four three years ago to 367 for the upcoming 2009-10 school year.
