UWP to host tri-state Undergraduate Psychology Conference

PLATTEVILLE- Psychology undergraduates from the tri-state region will gather at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Nov. 1 for the eighth annual tri-state Undergraduate Psychology Conference. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Morning events will be held in the Center for the Arts, while afternoon events will be held in Ullsvik Hall.

According to Joan Riedle, UWP professor of psychology, the conference has an even focus on research and career information. "A lot of my students will have to do research. By looking at what others are doing, they may get ideas for their own research. The conference is also an opportunity for us (the psychology department) to unmask ourselves. We can give valuable information that we don't always have time to give during advising and students have more time to ask questions," said Riedle.

The morning will begin with a session on graduate admission strategies from 9 to 9:50 a.m. proceeded by a careers with a B.S. in psychology session from 10 to 10:50 a.m. David Meyers, professor of psychology at Hope College, is the keynote speaker. His address will be "The Powers and Perils of Intuition."

The session, "Internet Usage, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly" presented by Marc Wruble, UWP associate professor of psychology, will start the afternoon sessions from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. Poster sessions I and II follow from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. where students from the tri-states will display and discuss their research projects. Another session will give students the opportunity to explore different graduate schools. The graduate school fair will run from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m.

Registration is $10 for the first five participants from the same college or university and $5 for each additional participant. Pre-registration is due Oct. 24.
