UWP receives grant from Woodward Foundation
PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville recently received a grant of $25,000 from the Woodward Foundation. The grant is to be paid to UWP over five years to build the scholarship endowment, Woodward Communications Inc.
"The scholarships will be awarded to students who are majoring in areas that are related to jobs at Woodward Communications Inc.," Liz Goodfellow, director of development, major gifts, of the UWP Foundation, said.
Woodward Communications Inc. is a dynamic corporation operating in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. WCI serves several local communities in Wisconsin through the publication of daily newspapers, free community newspapers, and the operation of radio stations. Locally, WCI is responsible for the publication of "Grant, Iowa, Lafayette Shopping News" (Platteville Shopping News) and the "Your Weekender". Since its establishment in 1956, the Woodward Foundation has gifted over $6 million.
Kim Govier of the UWP Foundation said, "With tuition on the rise, scholarships are more important than ever in helping our students achieve their goal in becoming a UWP graduate. Companies like Woodward are helping to make that goal a reality."
"Gifts like these enhance the opportunities available to students at UWP," said Dennis Cooley, executive director of the UWP Foundation and assistant chancellor for University Advancement. "We have also had a long-standing partnership with Woodward Communications Inc. WCI has given many of our alumni employment opportunities and the company has had a positive impact on our communications programs. This gift takes the relationship to an even higher level and we are so pleased the Woodward Foundation has chosen UW-Platteville as beneficiary to this wonderful gift. We look forward to a very positive future, providing public education to the tri-state region and will work hard to make sure Woodward Foundation leaders realize the benefits of this partnership."
This scholarship was attained for the students of UWP through efforts of the UWP Foundation.
