Collegiate FFA dedicates tree in memory of Matt Anderson
PLATTEVILLE- To celebrate the life of Matt Anderson, former University of Wisconsin-Platteville student, a tree at Pioneer Farm will be dedicated in his memory. A dedication ceremony will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at the Agriculture Technology Center at Pioneer Farm.
Anderson, a junior in agribusiness at UWP, 12 season athlete and president of the Wisconsin FFA Association, died in a farm accident in August 2007. He served as sentinel of the Wisconsin FFA Association before becoming president and was on the Chancellorâ•’s List at UWP.
Patrick Harker, president of UWP Collegiate FFA, served with Anderson in the Wisconsin FFA Association as vice president.
"Matt was a true leader. In the two years I knew him, we became fast friends. He was a positive remodel for the Wisconsin FFA Association and CFFA," said Harker.
UW-Platteville CFFA officers and professors will give speeches at the ceremony. A small plaque will be placed at the base of the tree for the dedication.
In addition to the tree dedication, a scholarship has also been established in Anderson's honor. It will be available to males attending UWP, UW-River Falls or UW-Madison who are pursuing a degree in agriculture. To raise money for the endowment fund, which will supply the scholarship, CFFA is selling bracelets with Anderson's name on them for $1 each.
Anyone wanting more information about the tree memorial, to donate to the scholarship endowment fund or purchase a bracelet may contact Harker at harkerp@uwplatt.edu.
