UWP honors Hamilton and Streich for their research
PLATTEVILLE-The University of Wisconsin-Platteville extends an invitation to the community to honor 2008 WiSys Innovation Scholars James Hamilton and Philip Streich. A reception is being held Monday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m. in the Nohr Gallery in Ullsvik Hall on the UWP campus.
Professor Hamilton and his student, Streich, made advances in the nanosciences while researching carbon nanotubes and graphene. They found a way to dissolve these materials in a solution and to detect their solvation. U.S. companies such as IBM and Intel along with the medical and biology fields seek these discoveries and their applications.
Previous recipients of this award include UWP professors, Michael Compton and Tim Zauche, for their joint research in 2006.
According to the WiSys Technology Foundation Inc. winter/spring 2008 newsletter, "The WiSys Innovation Scholar Award recognizes UW System faculty, staff and students who make outstanding discoveries that benefit society. Selection for the award is based on the innovative concept, broad use, value and industrial application."
