Deborah Thomas-Nininger to train UWP on business etiquette
PLATTEVILLE-The University of Wisconsin-Platteville community will have the opportunity to learn about business etiquette from Deborah Thomas-Nininger and employers on Wednesday, March 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Velzy Commons in Ullsvik Hall.
"Students can learn etiquette skills in a learning environment from a recognized individual," said Angie Krogman, career consultant for the UWP Career Center.
Added Diana Trendt, interim director and career consultant for the Career Center, "The program will instruct students on meal time interviews, assist them in their leadership activities and overall social situations, building additional confidence."
Thomas-Nininger, founder of DTN Productions International-Hallmark of Etiquette, will discuss body language, appropriate conversation, meal etiquette and appropriate attire for professional students. The evening begins with a mixing and mingling from 5:15 to 6 p.m. with dinner following from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask individual questions throughout the evening.
"My program is not a charm school. I teach students how to be more comfortable, more relaxed, and more confident, so they can walk into an interview and feel prepared so they can focus on what is most important," said Thomas-Nininger.
She has over 20 years of experience and is the executive trainer for a Fortune 500 company. Thomas-Nininger also organized the etiquette interests and international dilemmas for the 1996 Olympic Games. DTN Productions International-Hallmark of Etiquette has a program that can be applied to every professional field. It was at the request of employers that the company began the collegiate program.
"Employers tell us what they look for . . . The program is fun and entertaining. Everyone will leave with something that will allow them to enjoy life more," said Thomas-Nininger. Representatives from a variety of companies will join students for dinner, giving students the opportunity to network and find out more about what employers look for in job candidates. Caterpillar, who is sponsoring the event with a grant, will be among the companies."I encourage everyone to register and take advantage of this fun by the 29th," said Trendt.
The cost of the event is $11 per student and meal plans will be accepted. Pre-registration and pre-pay is required. The menu will consist of mesculin green salad, cheesy broccoli soup, grilled chicken breast with hunter sauce, herb roasted baby red potatoes, steamed Riviera blend vegetables, dinner rolls with butter and an apple dumpling with caramel sauce.
