ArtsBuild receives $5,000 grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board

PLATTEVILLE- The University of Wisconsin Platteville Office of Continuing Education has received a $5,000 grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board in support of their ArtsBuild program. The UWP ArtsBuild program is an advocacy, technical assistance and networking program that has been connecting artists and others throughout the region since its inception in 2004. The program pays particular attention to assisting artists in strengthening entrepreneurial and professional development needs.

ArtsBuild's grassroots beginnings charted a path that continues to focus on identifying the diverse constituency of artists in the region, listening to their needs, and responding with opportunities, resources and services to help them be successful.

ArtsBuild has been recognized as a model for regional partnership and collaboration, connecting and supporting artists and arts leaders who share a common vision for building creative opportunities in their communities and promoting the economic, educational and civic importance of the arts in southwestern Wisconsin. This $5,000 partnership grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board is its second award to ArtsBuild, which received a $4,000 Arts Board grant in 2006 and is intended to further the strategic partnership between the two organizations as they work together to serve the communities of southwestern Wisconsin.

"Our involvement with the UWP ArtsBuild program, which dates back to its beginning in 2004, has been highly rewarding," noted Karen Goeschko, assistant director for Programs and Services. "It's been exciting to watch the artists, arts groups, and community leaders of southwestern Wisconsin come together through ArtsBuild's work in order to strengthen these communities. We look forward to the continued development of the resources in this important region of the state." The Wisconsin Arts Board is the state agency that nurtures creativity, cultivates expression, promotes the arts, supports the arts in education, stimulates community and economic development and serves as a resource for people of every culture and heritage.
