UWP invites community to NTT presentations on Nov. 14

PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will host executives from the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The representatives of NTT will meet with members of the campus and regional communities and make four presentations throughout the day.

UW-Platteville's relationship with NTT dates to 2004 and, in 2005, it was announced that a subsidiary company, NTT Energy and Environment, would open an office in a rented space on campus. A ribbon cutting ceremony for that office was held in 2006.

Noritake Uji, senior executive vice president of NTT, will deliver the keynote presentation at 4:15 p.m. in the Thomas B. Lundeen Lecture Hall, Doudna Hall. His presentation is entitled, "Trends in Japan and NTT Research and Development Activities on Information and Communications Technology." Uji joined NTT in 1973 and advanced to senior vice president and director of New Generation Information Sector Services of NTT Data in 1999. In 2000, he was promoted to senior vice president and director of the corporate strategy planning department of NTT Data. In 2007, he was elected a senior vice president.

Three additional opportunities to hear executives of NTT will be available earlier in the day.

Dr. Toshihiro Ichino will speak on "Material Engineering in Telecommunications Maintenance," followed by a presentation delivered by Dr. Katsuhiko Honjo entitled "Trends in Japan on the Disaster Prevention Solution Using Information and Communications Technology." The presentations will begin at 11 a.m. in 222 Ottensman Hall. At 2 p.m. in 107 Ullrich Hall, Hiroki Tanaka will deliver a presentation on "Trends in Software Service in Japan." Dr. Tohru Maruno will make a presentation on "Trends in Japan and NTT Research and Development Activities on Energy and Environment" at 3 p.m. Maruno's presentation will be held in 140 Ottensman Hall.

All presentations are free and open to the campus and regional community. Anyone interested in learning more about this event or UWP's work with NTT may contact Barb Daus, special assistant to the chancellor, at (608) 342-1282 or daus@uwplatt.edu.
