UWP Community Scholarship Program off to a great start

PLATTEVILLE- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Foundation recently announced that it has generated a total of $80,144 thus far for the UW-Platteville Community Scholarship Program. The program is designed to focus alumni support to the high schools of their choice by uniting alumni, students and communities and allowing donors the opportunity to support their local high school and UWP with one gift.

The goal of the CSP is to pool gifts from alumni and friends living in a certain area to provide assistance to graduating high school seniors attending UWP. Currently, four high school students who are attending UWP next year have received $500 scholarships through the CSP. They include Katelyn Enloe, from Iowa-Grant High School; Michelle Gullickson, from Monona Grove High School; Kari Granzow, from Praire du Chein High School; and Jason Laschinger, from Verona High School.

The long-term goal of the program is to provide enough scholarship funds for every student entering UWP from each high school involved. Eventually, the CSP plans to fund all continuing students from those high schools participating in this program. Any graduating high school senior accepted into UWP is eligible to receive this scholarship.

Dennis Cooley, assistant chancellor for University Advancement, commented, "We've experienced exciting growth with this program. In addition to the cash gifts, we have received commitments for some planned and estate gifts which will help future Pioneers on their paths to Platteville. Our test of the program shows we can expect great success with our many wonderful donors who get to experience a win-win situation. Not only do they get to support their alma mater - UWP - but also the school districts where they have close ties."
