Holiday Telethon to raise money for Badger Camp
PLATTEVILLE- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Holiday Telethon will celebrate the holidays as it raises money for Badger Camp, on Dec. 1 from noon to 10 p.m.
"People can see right away where their money goes. It stays in the community. It's a chance for people to give back to the local community," said Colleen Garrity, director of Television Services.
A variety of talent is scheduled including Louis Savage and her piano students and the University Carolers. Campers, parents and counselors will also share their experiences from Badger Camp. Viewers can watch the telethon on channel five in Platteville or live at the television studio on the ground floor of Pioneer Tower.
Last year, the telethon raised $70,740. The money provides "camperships" to enable campers to attend Badger Camp. Badger Camp's mission is to "provide those with developmental disabilities with quality outdoor recreational experiences."
In addition to calling in donations, viewers can also call in bids on auction items. Thirty to 50 items donated by area businesses will be auctioned off every two hours. Included in the auction will be celebrity items such as autographed photos and T-shirts.
"It's a great opportunity for UWP and the community to support Badger Camp," said Garrity.
