ArtsBuild continues with increased support from UWP chancellor
PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Office of Continuing Education received an increase of support this year from David Markee, UWP chancellor, for the award-winning ArtsBuild program. ArtsBuild has been recognized as a top rural development initiative in Wisconsin and as a catalyst for civic engagement and economic growth in our region.
The UWP ArtsBuild program was launched by the UWP Office of Continuing Education to increase the capacity of area arts entrepreneurs to start or expand their arts-related businesses. The program was started four years ago with an economic development grant from UW-Extension Continuing EDvantage program, and has provided education, networking, marketing and partnership opportunities for over 300 area artists.
This year, the chancellor's increased $3,000 investment has allowed ArtsBuild to leverage funds from other sources, including the Wisconsin Arts Board.
Heidi Dyas-McBeth, director of ArtsBuild, stated, " We are very grateful for the chancellor's generosity. Support from UWP is priceless and has enabled us to maintain a regional presence, increasing he visibility of the area's artists and creative entrepreneurs."
The goal of ArtsBuild is to encourage economic growth in Southwest Wisconsin by providing local artists with opportunities to develop the skills they need to become successful entrepreneurs. Though a young program, ArtsBuild has already become a valuable economic resource in Southwest Wisconsin and has generated much local enthusiasm among the region's artists.
