UWP Alumni Services offers online community
PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Alumni Services has recently launched a new online community called AluMnation. The online community offers the same features as Facebook and MySpace. Anyone can access the AluMnation website to pay dues, make donations and buy clothing, but only dues-paying members of the UWP Alumni Association may post and view profiles on AluMnation. To become a member of the Alumni Association, a person must have attended or graduated from UWP and pay a $25 annual fee.
According to Kim Schmelz, UWP Alumni Services director, this new service came about because UWP wants to give alumni an easy way to stay connected to former classmates, faculty and staff in addition to keeping reunion groups together and organized. Alumni will be able to create and view profiles, post photos, build photo albums and make connections by looking up other alums, sending instant messages, posting resumes and maintaining personal blogs. Alumni control the amount of security on their accounts, keeping their information as private or public as they want.
To view the AluMnation site, go to www.uwplatt.edu/alumni, click on AluMnation and enter the required information to register.
