Southwest Wisconsin local food producers invited to community meetings about new initiative called 'Local Fare'

PLATTEVILLE - Local Fare, a new initiative through the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Office of Continuing Education, will work to expand the visibility, availability and sales of locally grown products in our region. This initiative will hopefully make Southwest Wisconsin's top cheese makers, livestock producers and fruit and vegetable growers more available and well-known. Local Fare is made possible by a UW-Extension Continuing EDvantage grant.

Local Fare is holding a series of community meetings throughout the region to introduce the project and to hear directly from local producers about their goals for a Southwest Wisconsin that celebrates local food. Participants should expect pertinent information and a lively conversation.

A series of meetings will be held throughout the region in the month of October: Tuesday, Oct. 2, 7 to 8:30 p.m. - Dodgeville, Plymouth Congregational Church UCC, 115 West Merrimac Street; Wednesday, Oct. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Spring Green, The Shed Restaurant, 123 North Lexington Street; Thursday, Oct. 11, 7 to 8:30 p.m. - Darlington, American Legion Hall, 1400 Keep Street; Thursday, Oct. 18, 7 to 8:30 p.m. - Richland Center, University of Wisconsin-Richland, 1200 Highway 14 West, Pippin Center, Melvill Hall; Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2 to 3:30 p.m. - Fennimore, Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, 1800 Bronson Boulevard, 493 Building 400; Thursday, Oct. 25, 7 to 8:30 p.m. - Seneca, Crawford County Highway Department Building, 21515 State Highway 27; and Tuesday, Oct. 30, 7 to 8:30 p.m. - Monroe, Blackhawk Area Technical College, 210 Fourth Avenue, Room 101 North Building.
