MERC Village Series to begin at UWP
PLATTEVILLE- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Multicultural Educational Resource Center will host the initial forum of the Village Series on Oct. 9. The first Village Series will entertain the topic "First Year Experience of Students of Color."
The program's open forum will discuss the first year experience of a college student. The forum will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Platteville East and West Rooms of the Pioneer Student Center on the UWP campus.
The Village Series was conceptualized based on the African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child."
Carlos Wiley, director of MERC, comments about the program, "Our hope is to make change on our campus to broaden knowledge of diversity and improve the cultural climate, to do so we have to come together as a community to make that change. As a community, we have to take responsibility and ownership of that need for change."
Future Village Series forums are scheduled for Nov. 6, Feb. 5, 2008, March 11, 2008, and April 15, 2008.
All people wishing to attend the event are welcome and there is no cost to attend. For more information about the Village Series or to facilitate a forum, contact Wiley at (608) 342-1332 or, wileyc@uwplatt.edu
