Jim Mueller named executive director of Auxiliary Services

PLATTEVILLE, WI - James P. Mueller will assume new duties at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in mid-August as executive director of Auxiliary Services.

Assistant chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Michael Viney, observed, "Jim is a visionary leader and brings creativity and entrepreneurial knowledge to these units of the university which must be self-supporting. He knows the importance of customer service and has proven that he can assemble teams that are effective in serving students, the university community and the community at large." In his new role as executive director of Auxiliary Services, Mueller will have operational responsibility for all auxiliary services including the university centers, dining services, student housing, and auxiliary physical plant.

Mueller joined UWP in 1997 as director of Dining Services. During his six-year tenure in that position, he oversaw the planning, development and implementation of the food court operations in the newly constructed Pioneer Student Center, opened in 2002. Additionally, he oversaw upgrades to Glenview Commons including the addition of a convenience store for residence hall occupants. Mueller led a team that was successful in improving dining options for students and catering options.

In 2003, Mueller was named director of University Centers and Dining Services. His responsibilities were expanded to include operations management of the Ullsvik Hall (formerly Ullsvik Center), the Pioneer Student Center, and the Cooper Living and Learning Center as well as oversight of student involvement and student leadership initiatives in the Pioneer Student Center. Since early 2007 and at the request of Chancellor David Markee, Mueller has served UWP on an interim basis as assistant chancellor for Administrative Services.

Mueller earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and his master's degree, in project management, from UW-Platteville. Prior to coming to UWP, he had 20 years of experience in contracted food service.
