UWP hosts Black White Episodes 5 and 6 viewing and discussion
PLATTEVILLE - On March 6, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Multicultural Educational Resource Center and Black Student Union will be hosting an open discussion following the viewing of Black White Episode 5, a FX Network television reality series where two families switch racial identities for six weeks. On March 20, another open discussion will be held following the viewing of Black White Episode 6. The Black White episodes are being shown and discussed as part of Black History Month.
Rahsaan Dunn, student member of the Black Student Union (BSU), states, "The Black White episodes showcase some of the differences and main stereotypes when dealing with racial issues."
Episode 5 of Black White will exhibit the tensions that grow as the two families struggle to find common ground. Episode 6 will show both families sharing the profound impact the six-week project has had on their lives.
Carlos Wiley, director of the Multicultural Educational Resource Center, comments, "The episodes are being shown to educate the UWP students and the campus community on how not to let our prejudices prevent us from interacting, regardless of skin color."
The presentations will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the Platteville East and West Rooms of the Pioneer Student Center on the UWP campus. Wiley will be facilitating the discussions. For more information, contact Wiley at (608) 342-1854 orwileyc@uwplatt.edu.
