Nimocks to give presentation on travels to East Africa

PLATTEVILLE- Mittie Nimocks, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, will educate guests about her travels to East Africa. This brown bag lunch presentation will be given at the Patricia A. Doyle Women's Center in 151 Doudna Hall on Feb. 27 from noon to 1 p.m.

"It's a chance for guests to broaden their horizons and expose themselves to something unfamiliar. Hopefully, students will think about participating in the new winterim class." said Patricia Foster, director of the Patricia A. Doyle Women's Center.

In January 2008, a winterim class will travel to Ghana and West Africa. Students will stay in Accra, Ghana's capital. The class will combine geography and women's issues while visiting villages, several universities, a dam and a slave castle where slaves were kept before they boarded ships to America. A presentation about the upcoming class will be given to the public in April.

The Patricia A. Doyle Women's Center hosts presentations and programs throughout the year. "I thought that Dr. Nimocks would be interesting to hear from. I hope that guests get a broader sense of the region and dispel any myths from her presentation," commented Foster.
