Live it Up! Conference is announced
PLATTEVILLE - Explore a fun, active and healthy lifestyle at the Live it Up! Conference on Saturday, Feb. 24 on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus. This event will feature: Kevin Theis, Wisconsin's biggest winner and representative on NBC's TV show "The Biggest Loser"; dietitian and cookbook writer M.J. Smith, who co-authored "The Smart Student's Guide to Healthy Living" with her college-age son, Fred, who put on the freshman 15; and Dr. Zorba Paster, Wisconsin Public Radio host and author of "The Longevity Code: Your Personal Prescription for a Longer, Sweeter Life." Books by Smith and Paster will be available for sale at the University Bookstore on the UW-Platteville campus, starting Feb. 1.
As part of the mission of the UW-Platteville Office of Continuing Education, the Live it Up! Conference is designed to: provide fun and active options for healthier living, motivate people to make healthier lifestyle choices, raise awareness of the resources available for a healthier life, and inspire people to create their own Live it Up! action plan.
Men and women of all ages are invited to join in finding out how to have a healthier life. In addition to the featured speakers, attendees can choose to attend three breakout sessions from over 20 topics that include the following: maintain your brain; creativity lost and found; keeping yourself mentally healthy; five natural ways to relax and rejuvenate; connecting with a personal trainer; how to go from I have to exercise, to I want to exercise; eating on a budget; eat well/sleep well; five ways to longevity; Mediterranean diet makeover; better bicycling for fitness and fun; yoga for health and vitality; lets get in the mood to boogie; and heart healthy aerobic activities.
The Live It Up! Conference will take place at the Pioneer Student Center on the UWP campus, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check-in and exhibits start at 7:30 a.m. and a book signing follows at 1 p.m. The fee for this one-day event is $20 per person. For groups of three or more, there is a group discount of $15 per person, and for full-time students, there is a student discount of $10 per person. Registration is requested by Monday, Feb. 19. After that date, registrations will be taken on a space-available basis.
