UWP to host holiday telethon

PLATTEVILLE- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Television Services will spread some holiday cheer while it raises money for Badger Camp during the 2006 Christmas Telethon, Dec. 2 from noon to 10 p.m.
The event will air on channel five in Platteville. Spectators may also watch the telethon live at the TV studio on the ground floor of Pioneer Tower on the UWP campus. The performance line up includes The Wundo Band, Erik Kjelland, Okham's Razor, the All Star Country Dancers, the Betty Hayes Dancers, the University Singers and Phi Mu Alpha. Corporate sponsors, Badger Camp counselors, campers and their parents will also be interviewed.
Colleen Garrity, director of Television Services, invites people to come and watch by saying, "We have good talent. It's always nice to have a full house to appreciate them."
Viewers can further support Badger Camp by bidding on items from the auction area. Approximately 50 goods and services donated from area businesses will be auctioned off each hour.
Close to 40 alumni will come back, putting their skills to work assisting in running the telethon. "They get to come back and see old friends. Many of them have fond memories of working the telethon when they were students," said Garrity.
Last year's telethon, which raised $68,000 was the most successful telethon yet. All money raised will fund "camperships" to enable campers to attend Badger Camp. Badger Camp's mission is to "provide those with developmental disabilities with quality outdoor recreational experiences."
