UWP hosts Higher Learning Commission

PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will be undergoing its regular reaccreditation review from Dec. 4-6 when members of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) visit the campus. The HLC is the arm of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools that is responsible for the accreditation of universities, colleges and other institutions of higher learning.

Eight examiners will spend two days reviewing UWP's self study report and meeting with faculty, students and staff. Their review will include both formal meetings and informal tours of campus and departmental visits. The Hempel Collaboratory in the Pioneer Student Center will serve as the team's headquarters while on campus.

Carol Sue Butts, UWP provost, explained that the process of accreditation review occurs every 10 years and is an important part of maintaining high academic standards.

"We welcome this visit because it is a chance for us to have outside education professionals help us make UWP even better. We are always seeking continuous improvement and this is just one more tool to help us fulfill our mission. We look forward to reading the full report from the HLC evaluation team in a few weeks," said Butts.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the reviewers will meet with Chancellor David Markee and other key staff to summarize their findings. A final report from the HLC will be issued by spring 2007.
