UWP Blood Drive is a record breaking event

PLATTEVILLE- This fall's blood drive held Oct. 31- Nov. 2, at the Pioneer Student Center, broke the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's previous record of 461 units, making it the biggest mobile blood drive in the Badger Hawkeye region.
The blood drive collected 563 units and 177 people donated for the first time. On Nov. 2, 211 units were collected, breaking the record for the most units collected in one day for the region. Since 1978, Residence Hall Association (RHA) has been sponsoring the blood drive with the Red Cross. It is one of the largest blood drives in the state, with an average of 15 percent of the student body donating.
"It's great to see the blood drive continue to expand. Students take to it so well. It takes an extreme amount of work, so it's rewarding to see it be so successful," said Frank Moullet, RHA president.
As an incentive for donating, volunteers were entered in a drawing for an X-box 360. Eric Tracy was the winner. Additional prizes given away included T-shirts, water bottles, three Red-Cross first-aid kits, can coolers and hats. p> The spring blood drive will be held Feb. 26-28 in the Pioneer Student Center.
